What age is best for children starting pre-school?
I would put him in preschool this September. I think the sooner you put him in preschool the more time he will have to catch up on his speech which is very important. My son has started talking a lot more since he started preschool this January but my son’ speech is still significantly delayed (my son is turning 3 on April 1st). My son is also developmentally delayed in other areas (gross & fine motor skills for example) so this is part of the reason I have started him in preschool at a young age…I am hoping he’ll catch up quicker. I also live in the United States where kids don’t go to Kindergarten until age 5. Pre-preschool 3 Preschool 4 Kindergarten 5 Pre-preschool is not necessary, but some parents feel more comfortable having their child get a little bit of school experience in advance. It’s rare for a child to start pre-preschool at the age of 2, & some schools don’t allow a child under 3 to start. Also, most preschools will not accept a child who is not potty trained. Since your son is having speech issues, he would benefit from having a speech therapist where he can get 1 on 1 attention with someone who specializes in that area, than what he would sitting in a classroom.
