How is his comprehension? Does he understand a great deal? Does he babble, or say mama or dada? He should be saying those two word at least by now. If not, then try reading to him every day for five minutes, and using ‘one’ word to practice with him like mama, dada, cat, dog. Just simple three letter words will be great. My son said “oh yeah” for his first word. No kidding. But after a while he stopped saying that, and he did say mama dada, but by the time he was two and a half years old, he still wasn’t saying much. I got a referral from our pediatrician to have him evaluated through the State for Speech Development (as well as other areas of development), and he was fine in all development areas except for his speech. At two and a half years old, he only had a 16 month old speech. So he started with Speech Therapy through the State, and when he turned three years old, his therapy went to the school district and now he’s in a developmental preschool class where they give him speech th
