What altitude does a satellite orbit the earth?

An easy one to see at night on the polar orbit is Envisat (at least from where I live). On the first link go to the right hand panel and in the “multimedia links” column is “where is envisat”. Click on that and it will take a couple of minutes but a page should load showing where it is. The site also has other info. Best chance to see it and others go to the second link, heavens above. You would need to log in, it is free, and check out the various bits of info. Enter your location and it will show you if and when you can see satellites such as Envisat.
