What approach does MetService take to weather forecasting?
Making a forecast by simply following the current trends forward in time tends not to work that well beyond a few hours into the future. This is because there are many complex interactions that affect the state of the atmosphere. To accurately forecast the weather several days in advance requires that these interactions be thoroughly taken into account. Forecaster judgement and computer models of the weather both play an important role in this process.
