What are A260 or Optical Density Units?
Amount of DNA is generally measured by placing a known volume in a spectrophotometer and reading the absorbance at a particular wavelength. For example if you have 1ml of a solution containing an unknown amount of DNA, and you place it in a spectrophotometer cell with a light path of 1cm, and the spectrophotometer is set to read the absorbance at 260 nm, and the absorbance reading is 0.10, then you have 0.1 Optical Density Units (ODU) of DNA. This is written as 0.1 A260U or 0.1 ODU.
