Annotations, also known as Java 5 metadata, are a new Java language feature introduced in JDK 5. They allow metadata to be added to Java source files that exists outside of ordinary programmatic flow control. In Beehive, annotations are used for setting properties on source files that are then processed at both build time and runtime.
