Video Transcript What Are Annual Flowers? We are talking about planting annuals in the garden today and an annual is any plant that you might put into the ground for just one season so it might be something like pansies, violas, zinnias, snap dragons or stalk that you might put into your garden that might only be there for three to six months. So there are many different ways that you can use annuals in the garden and many different types of annual plants. Depending on where you live in the country you have many options as to when you can plant things. So you can plant plants in spring, summer or fall depending on if you live in a warm climate and as you can see here we have some examples of plants that we planted this fall. These are violas. Also a great plant is pansies and we can also use kale. We will also plant many of our spring flowering bulbs in the fall such as tulips and daffodils.  more

Annual flowers are those flowers which live only for a growing season and are usually killed off at the first frost of the fall or winter, if not sooner. While annuals do take a considerable amount of patience, they can make for a very visually appealing garden. Annual flowers are common even in climates where the flowers would not normally grow and are considered a safe species to plant in many cases, simply because their ability to take over native species is limited by their lifespans. Annual flowers are also known for their very vibrant colors. One of the primary benefits of annual flowers, and annual plants in general, is the cheap cost and maintenance issues.
