What are annuals and perennials?
Annuals are plant species that complete an entire life cycle in one growing season. A life cycle includes germination, growth to maturity, blooming, producing seeds and death. In contrast, the lives of perennials extend beyond one growing season. Herbaceous perennials generally die at the end of the growing season but send up new shoots the following season. Woody perennials, such as trees and shrubs, do not die but grow larger each year.
