To facilitate beautification and maintenance of cemetery grounds, most cemeteries in the Greater Edmonton area require that the casket be placed in an outer burial receptacle capable of withstanding the weight and pressures of the earth above and surrounding the casket. The basic option is a “grave liner” – a simple cement box with a lid that is placed on top after the casket is resting inside. Note: a grave liner is not a sealed unit – and offers no guarantee that outside grave elements may or may not enter the liner. A Burial vault is designed not only to withstand the weight of the surrounding earth, but also they offer additional protection to the casket from all graveside elements (i.e. water).
