What are Central adrenergic inhibitors?
Central adrenergic inhibitors are Vasodilator medications that act directly on the brain to prevent it from signaling the central nervous system to increase heart rate or narrow blood vessels. See Table 8 Table 8 Drugs Side Effects Clonidine (Catapres Ò) Extreme fatigue, drowsiness or sedation, dizziness, impotence, constipation, dry mouth, headache, weight gain, impaired thinking and psychological problems, such as depression Methyldopa (Aldomet Ò) Guanfacine (TenexÒ) What are Vasodilators? Vasodilators are medications that open (dilate) blood vessels. They work directly on the muscles in the walls of arteries, preventing the muscles from tightening and the walls from narrowing. As a result, blood flows more easily through the arteries, and the heart doesn’t have to pump as hard and blood pressure is reduced. See Table 9 Table 9 Drugs Side Effects Hydralazine (Apresoline ) Tachycardia, aggravation of angina, fluid retention, nausea, vomiting, sweating, flushing, lupus-like syndrome Mi
