What are common, known problems with the Vantage Pro?
Hardware-wise, there are two far-too-common problems. The first is the humidity sensor reaching and “sticking” at 100%. The only fix is to replace the ISS SIM board, which is fairly easy to do yourself. Davis is very good about sending out replacements. The second is for the anemometer to fail completely. The cups spin, but no readings are shown. There **appears** to be a correlation with this failure and precipitation events, but that is only anecdotal. Thus far, Davis has not acknowledged this as a widespread problems, but the sheer number of occurrences noted on the WeatherMatrix Vantage Pro forum and within the Vantage Pro Users’ Group show a clear pattern that denotes an engineering flaw with this instrument. The transmitter range of the original ISS design also under-performs according to the initially advertised specifications. Davis seems to have re-engineered this in 2003 models, but no reports have yet been received on whether or not these changes are effective. As of version
