This focus on the Context of intelligence, the environment, has led many researchers to study the cultural context or anthropological view of intelligence. Often contextual theorists prefer an externally oriented approach to intelligence, focusing on how intelligence cannot be understood without understanding the external cultural context of the behavior. Contextualists stress that cultures are different in what they value and what skills and knowledge are essential for a high level of functioning in the specific environment. They point out that intelligence tests need to be culture-fair, comprising of items that are equally fair to members of all cultures.
