What are different types of contact lenses available today?
Contact lenses are available in basic threematerials. • Hard contect lenses- These are lenses, which have been around the longest. This is PMMA material. These lenses require the longest adaption period and are found uncomfortable when driving two wheelers, they are very easy to handle and not very fragile. • R.G.P. Contact lenses – Rigid Gas permeable contact lenses also commonly termed as semi soft or polycon contact lenses are made of a plastic that allows oxygen gas to pass thro the material in other terms it allows cornea to breathe better. The lens material has a high Gas dispersion coefficien (DK Value) They provide a high degree of comfort after an initial adaption period. They are also easy to clean and disinfect they are highly effective to correct almost all types of vision defects you also have the option to select lenses for extended wear. • Soft Contact lenses- These have been around for now almost 25 years. They have been found to be the most comfortable contact lenses.
