What are Federal Student Aid College School Codes?
Federal financial aid is an important part of covering the cost of college for many students and families. Each school that is qualified to receive federal student aid is assigned a unique 6-character college school code called a Federal School Code. These codes are used to identify the different colleges and universities that take part in the federal aid program. Some schools are assigned more than one code in order to specify different campuses and programs. Hopeful college students can apply for federal student aid by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). A school’s financial aid office may help applicants complete the form, or it can be completed online (fafsa.ed.gov). When filling out this form, financial aid candidates must provide the federal school code for each school and program they are applying to.
