What are good places to visit in china besides beijing and shanghai in winter?
If you don’t like the cold weather, even Beijing may be a bit tough to stand in Winter, and you’d want to head south. Chengdu is beautiful and a very pleasant place to visit, but to get to properly more warm places you’d have to head towards HK or Hainan, or bigger cities on the coast up towards Shanghai (Xiamen etc) . If you don’t mind the cold, however, the Harbin Snow & Ice Festival is a must-see. It starts in early January, goes on for about a month and is in Harbin, about 1200km north-east of Beijing (an overnight train ride or short flight will get you there.) But beware – average temperature in Harbin is -19°C in January, so make sure to take those thermals with you!
