What are Internet Protocol v4 (IPv4) and Internet Protocol v6 (IPv6)?
IPv6 (Internet Protocol version 6) is the official name for IPng, short for Internet Protocol next generation, a new version of the Internet Protocol (IP). The current version of IP is version 4, so it is sometimes referred to as IPv4. IPng is designed as an evolutionary upgrade to the Internet Protocol and will, in fact, coexist with the older IPv4 for some time. IPng is designed to allow the Internet to grow steadily, both in terms of the number of hosts connected and the total amount of data traffic transmitted. For information on IPv6 addresses please visit www.IPv6.org.A typical IPv6 address will look like this: 3ffe:1900:4545:3:200:f8ff:fe21:67cf Note: When delegating or redelegating your .au domain name you will be need to specify the Internet Protocol type. If the IP type is not specified the system default, IPv4 is taken.
