What Are Jobs That Are Done By Those In The High Castes In Indian Caste System?
The Indian society was bifurcated into four distinct castes. This division came about initially on the basis of the work done by each group. They were divided thus: -Brahmans: They were the priests and took care of all the religious rites and rituals and temple maintenance. – Kshatriyas: These were the warriors. They took over the responsibility of safeguarding the towns and cities from invaders. – Vaishyas: They were the merchants and handled trade. – Shudras: They took care of the cleanliness and maintenance of roads, drains and other lowly duties. However, in time, this caste system began to be identified on the basis of birth and people of one caste were not allowed to take up the vocation of another. But, today, India has progressed in all walks of life, including the caste system. Thanks to the initiatives of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Ambedkar, the discrimination was highlighted and dissolved.
