What are MIL standards?

0

MIL stands for ‘Military Specification.’ (MilSpec) MilSpec is used when something is required that requires unusually high durability, reliability and resistance to damage and rough handling. COTS stands for ‘Commercial Off The Shelf.’ This is a consumer or industrial product that is purchassed by the military without any modifications. MilSpec parts tend to be highly reliable and resistant to damage – but also very expensive. COTS items tend to be less durable but much cheaper. If your life depends on the item – you want MilSpec.
