What are novelty contact lenses?
• Novelty contact lenses are sometimes called ‘cosmetic’ lenses, ‘zero-power’ lenses or “plano” lenses. They are a fashion item made to change the appearance of your eyes, and are available in a wide range of colours, patterns and looks. • They are soft plastic lenses that sit directly on the surface of your eye. • Unlike prescription (or ‘sight-changing’) contact lenses, novelty contact lenses do not change your vision, but this does not mean that they are always safe. • Just like sight-changing contact lenses, you need a prescription from an optometrist or doctor to be able to buy novelty contact lenses.
