An obstetrician is a physician that specializes in obstetrics. Obstetrics is the branch of medicine that deals with the process of birth. A gynecologist is a physician that specializes in gynecology. Gynecology is the branch of medicine that deals with diseases of women. They also focus on establishing and maintaining the overall health of women. Not all gynecologists are obstetricians, i.e not all gynecologists deliver babies. A specialist who practices both obstetrics and a gynecology is often called an OB/GYN doctor Sub-specialty Critical Care Medicine Specialist (also Internal Medicine) : A critical care physician deals with life-threatening conditions or diseases.
