This therapy is undertaken to clean and debride the teeth and roots above and below the gum. Probing deeper than 3mm's is called a Periodontal Pocket. Bacteria fill this pocket and deposits from these bacteria, called tartar or calculus form on the roots. Scaling and root planing clean these pockets and roots and maybe completed without the need for anesthesia.  more
