A small percentage of patients may experience more prolonged discomfort, especially if the tubes are blocked and the liquid dye is unable to flow out of the uterus promptly. Some patients will be placed on antibiotics before the procedure in an effort to prevent infection. If your HSG shows blockage of the tubes and you have not taken antibiotics before the procedure, you may be given an antibiotic prescription for use after the HSG.
