Batteries and antennas are the first thing to go with cellular phones. A phone with a battery problem will stop holding a charge or won’t charge. A phone with an antenna issue (whether internal or external) will have issues with reception. Your particular phone has a prominent external antenna. Whether you can see it or not, it is most likely damaged, i.e., cracked or loose. Even if you can’t see any damage, there is most likely damage to the antenna. This phone was released in 2003. Most phones have a 2-3 year life span if used frequently. Since the phone is no longer under warranty, my personal recommendation would be to get a new phone to replace the one that isn’t working properly.
