What are researchers learning about position emission tomography (PET) scans in people with bladder cancer?

PET scanning has been widely adopted by cancer physicians for lung cancer, lymphomas, and many other types of cancer. Researchers at Memorial-Sloan Kettering Cancer Center have shown that PET may be very useful in managing patients with advanced bladder cancer. In their study, when PET was used, treatment was altered two-thirds of the time compared to standard imaging tests, such as computed tomography (CT) scans or magnetic-resonance imaging (MRI).
