What are riparian water rights in the UK?

0

Rirarian rights are those which attach to the banks of a river or stream. The normal assumption is that ownership of the land includes these rights but they can form a separate freehold title which I believe is the only freehold which does not require ownershio of the land itself. Thus it is possible for a property to own the riverbank but to have no right to fish, moor etc. The owner also has rights to the use of the water itself but has obligations not to hinder its passage or abstract too much. The rights extend to the centre of the watercourse.
