What are Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits?

0

SSDI benefits are available to a person who has worked and paid into FICA. By paying money throughout your working life, you are investing in our government’s insurance plan that is supposed to cover you if you become disabled. The higher your earnings and the longer your work history, the higher your benefit will be if you become disabled and are successful in obtaining benefits. Who is eligible for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits? You may qualify for SSDI if you have been working and paying into FICA for at least 5 out of the last 10 years before you become disabled (fewer quarters of coverage are required for younger workers), if you are a dependant of a deceased or disabled person, a disabled widow or widower between the ages of 50 and 60 whose deceased spouse was fully insured at the time of his or her death, or if you have been disabled since before the age of 22 and your parent is disabled or deceased. Also, you must show that you have a disabling impairment
