Cool and decent question! Well we used a different strategy in one of the worst cities in Iraq back in 2006 when I was there. It is common knowledge know but was way different then. My unit was 1st Bridage, 1st Armored Division (1/1AD) from Germany and we were in Ramadi, Iraq (2006-2007). On June 18, 2006, the 1st BCT, 1st Armored Division launched its offensive. Despite fears that the assault would be a repeat of the Marine offensive in Fallujah, the brigade took a different approach, discouraging residents from fleeing and moving in slowly with much more limited use of heavy weapons such as Abrams tanks,artillery, and close air support.
