Gather and secure all important documents in a safe place (birth certificates, marriage license, passport, medical records, etc.), as well as any valuables that you need to protect. Make sure to have enough cash on hand to last for at least a week to pay for hotels, food, gas, etc. Also make sure to have enough drinking water and non-perishable foods, as well as any medications you may be taking to last for at least a week. Gather flashlights, battery operated radio, candles, and enough batteries to last for a week. Have an ice chest ready, with bags of ice in the freezer to keep anything that may need refrigerating if/when the electricity goes out.
