What are some good young adult books by african american authors?
In response to Q Q, it matters to parents who want to instill a sense of pride and self-identification with heroic protagonists of color. So often this is not the case in many books. To answer the first question, unfortunately, I know a lot of authors, even classic authors, but there are very few African American books geared towards teaching and entertaining at the same time. Walter Dean Myers is very well liked, but some of the content is troubling. Another classic author that is well liked is Richard Wright who wrote Black Boy. Again, some of the content is questionable. Ralph Ellison’s Invisible Man is thought provoking.
