What are some important facts about Quito, Ecuador? Where can I find Pictures?
Full name is San Francisco de Quito. It is the Capital of Ecuador and sits on the line of 0 Latitude, so they have a monument proclaiming that it is the center of the earth (or something like that). (My husband is from Ecuador so I’ve seen numerous pictures.) It sits on the Andes mountain range and the altitude is quite high (about 10,000 feet). Visitors have to adapt to it and sometimes get sick at first. Even though it’s on the equator, the altitude tempers the climate so it is not as hot as one might think. They don’t have a lot of temperature extremes. It’s a very pretty city, much cleaner and modern than other parts of the country. It used to be part of the Inca Empire. The currency used to be the “Sucre” but several years ago they adopted the U.S. dollar. Just google Quito, Ecuador and there are plenty of sites and pictures.
