What are some main differences in American government and Chilean government?
Ambassador Fernandez: It is very similar. Except in elections there is a big difference. We have a universal election for President. Here it is very complicated and hard to explain. I know how it works, but to explain to others is almost impossible. Then we have a Cabinet like here, and we have a working Parliament with the Senatevery importantlike in the United States, and the Chamber. It is similar to the United States, but very different from Europe where you have a Parliamentary system with Prime Ministers. We dont have Vice Presidents. When the President leaves the country the means and materials become the active Vice President of the Republic. But we do not have that institutionbut in the other elements we are very similar. Another difference is that we are a Unitarian country and the United States is a Federal one. KO: You have a President that is a woman? Is this Chiles first female president? The first ever in South America! There is also a second in Argentina, Cristina Ferna
