What are some major search engines & how do they work?
There are three major search engines. Google, Yahoo & MSN. Google is the leading search engine with over 18 million search hours per month. Google is a “crawler” based search engine. Crawler based search enginges have robots that are called spiders. Spiders are automatically sent out by search engines to follow hyperlinks from one document to the next over the web. When a spider finds a new site, it sends information back to the main site to be indexed. Spiders also search previously spidered sites because information is ever changing and it will update catalogued sites.
