This was the first choice due to the compatibility with conventional photopolymer plates and due to the fact that you have more than one supplier of plates. Nowadays, thermal technology has already gained a certain market share in Germany. Some German newspapers are also testing new violet CTP systems with silver plates and computer-to-conventional-plate systems. There are even cases where newspapers have a good running CTP system in place for some years but still test new systems in parallel. So they are also prepared to invest time and effort into testing new systems in-depth. Some German newspapers do not fear playing the role of a test site for a supplier. Newspaper Techniques: The (quality initiative for newspaper printing standard) has kicked off in Germany and has been rolled out, in somewhat similar fashion, in other countries.
