What are some similarities and differences between the American and French Revolution?
Answer There are indeed both similarities and differences between these 2 revolutions (as with the earlier English revolution under Cromwell). Both were inspired by the intellectual movement called enlightenment that was very prominent during the 18’th century. Both started with rather modest demands – in America to have a say in taxation (“no taxation without representation”) and protests against certain other British regulations (mainly in the fields of trade & customs) – and in France to have some sort of functioning British style parliament, to have a say in taxation too and to make taxation equal to the whole population (the clergy and the nobility were exempt)and to make trade more liberal and to open up some professions reserved for the nobility to everyone and to bring order into the finances. Both then became more radical, abolishing the monarchy and in the American case declaring independence (which had NOT been a goal in the beginning). BUT there are also big differences. Th
