One study, conducted prior to the anthrax attacks in 2001, reported that more than 70% of physicians rated their knowledge on diagnosis and management of bioterrorism-induced illness as less than adequate or very poor. Another study published in 2004 reported 68% of emergency room physicians rated their knowledge of bioterrorism as limited. These results indicate the need for incorporating bioterrorism into physician education.
