What are the advantages and disadvantages of the air-to-air heat pump?
As mentioned earlier, advantages and disadvantages are relative to another approach. Some advantages of air-to-air relative to geothermal include smaller initial capital cost; less disruption to the current physical plant; and the ability to replace units incrementally rather than all at once, thus spreading out the capital investment. Disadvantages include higher energy usage (and environmental impact); higher operating costs; higher maintenance costs; and less flexibility in addressing problems with the current system (hot and cold spots; noisy operation).
