What are the benefits of hiring an architect vs an interior designer for a major home renovation?

The renovation will include completely replacing a kitchen and two bathrooms, cosmetic changes to most of the rest of the interior, updating the exterior, and possibly building an additional level on one section of the home. Architects have very strict contracts with builders, therefore any problems that may occur during the project can be resolved by your architect. The fact that you require an additional level to your home makes the need for an architect even more desirable as all planning approvals from authorities usually go trough an architectural practice. My advice to you is: 1. To have a brief prepared (sketches, drawings, images etc) when employ your designer/architect. 2.
