Increasing activities in fish farming is one way Nigeria can use to cut hunger and reduce unemployment to a reasonable level in the next few years.With famine stalking Africa, Nigerians could plunge deeper into poverty unless efforts are made by the government to encourage local fish farmers by giving them loans. For instance, globally, revenue from world fishing fleets amounts to over $15 billion annually. Fishing provides millions of families with dependable sources of protein. The fishing industry has made huge progress in eradication of global poverty. With the current economic crisis ravaging the country, low profitability of agriculture, drought of younger generation in the sector, rapid rural-urban migration and high cost of meat and chicken, how will the country feed its teeming population of almost 150 million people without engaging in local fish farming?
