What are the benefits of LAN?
It really depends on the size of your organization and what business sector you work in. If you’re working on your own then a LAN will be unnecessary. if you have a couple of employees but work as a plumber of electrician then I suspect a LAN wouldn’t be useful. However, if you have, say, over 2 employees working in an office (or offices) and you need to share documents, information etc, then a LAN would be a sensible addition. Competitive advantages won’t be obvious, but time saving would be the most likely advantage since you won’t have the hassle of trying to share documents via memory stick etc. Also, you can share peripherals, such as printers and scanners rather than having one printer per desk. Finally, if you are using shared network drives then a sensible backup strategy will safeguard those all important business critical documents. Hope this helps!
