I I don’t believe anyone should supplement with iron unless they have been advised to do so by a doctor because they were found to have iron-deficiency anaemia. There are other forms of anaemia related to folate deficiency, or vitamin b12 deficiency. You could feel tired with any of these anaemias. However you may get other symptoms too with all three ….there is some overlap with symptoms [tiredness, paleness, breathlessness, palpitations, etc] but vitamin b12 deficiency anaemia could cause other nervous system disorder symptoms such as tingling and numbness. Taking too much inorganic iron [as found in most supplements] when not needed or to excess could lead to symptoms similar to having an iron storage disease [e.g. Haemochromatosis] ….whereby iron deposits [“rust”] are laid down in various organs of the body….notably the skin but could also be the liver, brain and other organs.
