If you're just concerned about in-between grooms, you should be fine with just a few basics. Start with shampoo and conditioner (if you wish). Combs work best for getting out tangles, and slicker brushes are less rough on a puppy and give them a nice fluffy look when you brush and blow dry them at the same time. You can use your fingers to pluck hair from the ears (or have your regular groomer or vet do this), although there are tools made especially for this task. Be very careful if you do this yourself (tweezers, hair pullers or hemostats are what we use). Be sure to read our grooming section to see what other products we use on our puppies.
