what are the best time travel books?
I do like time travel stories. If you ever want to write one for yourself, or just learn how this can be approached in SF, I recommend Paul Nahin’s non-fiction book Time Machines, which is a lot of fun. It also has an extensive list of such stories in the back. My criteria for choosing these were 1) that it is on my bookshelf and worth a second read and 2) I hoped that it might not be commonly recommended: The Iowa Baseball Confederacy by W. P. Kinsella – This book is hard to place in a genre. The author also wrote “Field of Dreams.” The protagonist, Gideon, knows with absolute certainty that in 1908 the Chicago Cubs played a game against a minor league team in Iowa. He ends up back in time, taking part in 2000 innings of baseball. It is extremely surreal, but well written. I thought it was fun.
