The strain of human papillomavirus (HPV) that you may have on your fingers may be the common type associated with fingers– i.e., that type of HPV does not prefer the skin (epithelium) of the vulva or vagina (or penis or anus, if you were so inclined!). It can grow and develop in other places, but it just prefers the fingers. So although it is unlikely to spread the virus to other places, it nevertheless is possible. The simplist prevention is to cover up your affected hand or fingers with latex or other barrier gloves or finger cots. A condom over your finger or hand would also work.
