What are the costs of owning a horse?
The costs of owning a horse varies. For instance, if you have your own land then you will need a water source for your horse, at least an acre and a half, shelter and a fence. The shelter doesn’t have to be anything real nice just something for the horse to get out of the elements. The fence can either be board or slick wire. Not bared wire as horses tend to get them selves into trouble. The water can either be a tank of water or a stream, creek, etc. If you are boarding the horse, then that depends on where you board it. Down the road from me there is a barn who supplies the hay, grain, water, and pasture for only $200/month (USD). That is about the cheapest there is though. Some places charge $400/month (USD) for all inclusive board. You may find a place near you that has only pasture board that is very cheap. In this case, you will need to supply the grain. Grain varies depending on the horse and the amount of riding. If you have a Quater Horse (or generally any warm blooded horse)
