A number of credible studies have indicated with reasonable certainty that exposure to vinyl chloride causes a number of medical conditions and diseases. Some of the more common medical conditions include numbing/poor circulation in the fingers, and severe damage and cancer in the liver. Generally speaking, exposure to vinyl chloride can also cause general damage to the liver, damage to the lungs, thickening of the skin, and changes in the blood. The specific type of liver damage most commonly linked to exposure to vinyl chloride is called angiosarcoma – a rare form of liver cancer. A number of workers who have been exposed to dangerous amounts of vinyl chloride in the plastic business have developed all of the foregoing medical conditions, including death from the angiosarcoma cancer.
