What are the demographics of North Philadelphia, Pennsylvania?
North Philadelphia, depending on how it is defined, has roughly 200,000 people. The western and central regions of North Philadelphia are almost entirely Black. The east side of North Philadelphia is almost entirely Hispanic (mostly Puerto Rican and Dominican). The area known as Olney, which is often considered its own section, has a large Asian population in addition to the dominant Black and Hispanic demography. Well over half of North Philadelphia’s residents live below the poverty line, and most live in neighborhoods where crime is rampant. Some of the area’s people live in public housing projects, detached homes, and large apartment buildings, but, like South PhiladelphiaSouth and West Philadelphia, the majority live in rowhouses.
