What are the differences and commonalities between Wicca and Paganism?

Uh – Wicca is a spirituality, a form of religion. 90% connection to our deities, Magic is neither black nor white. It just is, and Wicca is not as concerned with that aspect. Both Wicca and Paganism are polytheistic, plus both encompass many paths and belief structures, the may pole is usually Celtic or the like. Norse did not do that nor did some of the other groups. I am eclectic because my beliefs follow several paths. It is not all that simple to explain in a place like this, nor can I explain the beliefs of others since they are following different paths than mine. Good luck.

Wicca is a part of Paganism. Pagan is an umbrella term for many, many different types of worship. Just like Christianity encompasses many different denominations like Baptist, Pentecostal, or Anglican.

Wicca is not magic, and Paganism does not pray to mother earth. Paganism is an umbrella term for a very large group of non-Abrahamic European religions, of which Wicca is one.

Wicca is just one form of paganism (neopaganism in this case). It was developed by Gerald Gardener and has a set of (loose) rules that adherents follow. I don’t believe in a single omnipotent god thing at all, male or female, otherwise, I am quite warm to Wicca. However, I consider myself pagan or heathen, whatever term you want to use. Virtually everybody who practices paganism in N. America, other than Native American Indians, are considered neopagans. Their beliefs or rites are not at all ancient having been redeveloped in the 20th century rather than handed down in practice. However, people in other countries have continued to practice their native religions, sometimes in secrecy over the dominant enforced religion. Not too many left in Europe, however, but it still survived in pockets, especially very cold regions. Catholics pretty much murdered anybody who didn’t tow the line while Muslims did the same in their turf.
