What are the differences between: charter, home, private, and public schools?

Public schools are, as you know, paid for by taxes and administered by the government. Charter schools are a type of public school run by a group, and they receive some state money, but are mostly funded by individual contributions and the group that runs the school. They charge no tuition. A group applies for and receives the charter, and gets a lot of freedom in the structure of the school. They’re usually innovative and generally pretty good schools. Private schools receive no tax money. Students usually pay tuition, but the school makes its own decisions on curriculum. Home schools are sort of private schools I suppose, but the parent gets to make all decisions and the parent educates only his/her children.
