What are the differences between the newer EWI4000s and the older EWI models?

On the EWI4000s, everything is self-contained. The older EWI models (EWI1000, EWI3000, EWI3020) required a companion sound module connected via a proprietary (and expensive) EWI connecting cable. The EWI USB also must be connected to a computer in order to make sound. The EWI4000s has a MIDI OUT jack right on the body of the instrument. Also the EWI4000s has a built in analog modeling sound module built into the body and it all runs off of 4 AA batteries. There are now two grounding plates on the EWI4000s and EWI USB models- one under each thumb. The older models had only one such plate thus you couldn’t remove your right hand thumb from the horn to adjust parameters without the pitch warbling. This was resolved with the EWI4000s and EWI USB design.
