The difference between the two has a lot to do with the materials used, and the labor/skill factor that is used to fabricate and install the specific cabinet. For custom cabinets a lot more care goes into the handling and finishing of the product where in lower end cabinets you might not know it but your cabinets probably were not built with the same precision. Custom cabinets normally involve a true plywood box and stay away from particle boards and melamines. The finishes are not manufactured but custom sprayed to suit. Custom Cabinet doors are typically true hardwood construction and/or MDF for paint grade. Custom Cabinet Doors typically stay away from Deco-door material, and/or thermafoil. Lower end cabinets would be more likely to be Pre-fabricated but semi-professionally installed.
